Adults who play a musical instrument suitable for a concert band are always welcomed as new members. We require no audition.



Rehearsals are held at Corning High School on Thursday evenings, from 7 -9 P.M.

Our Directors

John Stranges has been the conductor of the Corning Area Community Concert band for 38 years. He is retired from teaching instrumental music at Northside Blodgett Middle School in Corning where he taught for 34 years, after which he was the instrumental music instructor and band director at The Alternative School for Math and Science. John has a Bachelor of Music Education degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College, a Master of Science in Education degree from Elmira College and has also completed graduate work at VanderCook College of Music. He is a member of the New York State School Music Association and a life member of the Association of Concert Bands. He is also a member of the New York State Band Director’s Association, which chose him as New York State Outstanding Retired Band Director in the Spring of 2004.

Scott D. Kelley  joined our band in 2013 as a director. He holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education from Ithaca College and a Masters of Music Degree in Music Performance from SUNY Binghamton.  He began his teaching career directing instrumental music in Troy, PA and Wappingers Falls, NY.  Since 1987 Scott has been Director of Bands at Elmira Free Academy where he conducts the EFA Concert Band, Marching Band, and the EFA Jazz Ensemble. He is also the founding and current director of the Elmira College Concert Ensemble and is the Instrumental Music Director at First Presbyterian Church in Elmira, NY. Scott is the camp director of the Bristol Hills Music Camp in Canandaigua, NY. In addition, Scott has played trumpet in several local orchestras, and currently plays with the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes. A regular guest conductor of Area All-State and All-County bands in New York and Pennsylvania and a frequent soloist throughout the area, Scott is a member of MENC, NYSSMA, NYSBDA, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
